Why Do We Disrespect Women ???

I was waiting for the day to get over, and was planning to pack my bags to home. Three twitter updates spoiled my mood completely for the day. It was on an issue, on which I have always spoken of. It’s about disrespecting women.

Read these three news items:-

“In a strange ritual 2,000 women, who were believed to be 'possessed' by evil spirits, were given severe, blood-oozing lashing in public to 'free them from these bad elements' in a village in Tamil Nadu. The whipping ritual included girls as young as 10-years-old.This strange ritual continued for five hours at the annual festival of the ancient Sri Achappan Temple on the Vijaydashmi day.
One girl was whipped for not showing interest in studies. The parents believed that the lack of interest was because there was an evil spirit residing in her. One girl received lashings for not attaining puberty on time and another for her irregular menstrual periods !!!”

“A 23-year-old hotel management student has claimed that she was abducted, gang-raped and filmed the act by four men after taking her to three states in about a month !!!”

“Frances Gomes, a father was convinced that if his daughters left his flat, they would be raped or "corrupted". So he kept his daughters, 27-year-old Barbara and 21-year-old Elizabeth, locked up with their mother for 7 years in Mumbai !!!”

No justification (whether be it tradition, mentality, illiteracy etc.), can approve any form of disrespect to women. Can someone give one good reason, why such instances happen, in every form of society, be it rural, or urban.
As my title goes, Why do we disrespect women ???, I am still searching for an answer.

its not just abt disrepecting or ill treating women..its their ignorance that they dont realise the value of a fellow human being..the fundamental reason for these three incidents u listed is the same reason whic made the ppl burn the godhra trains ,demolish Babri masjid, kill the Jews, and tortured prisoners in CIA secret camps..this a fundamental flaw in the design of man and it can be cured by good upbringing, good education and showered with true love..but in a world where millions of children are starving and select hundreds are sipping champagne...its tough to control the hatred in the minds of the underprivileged which gradually spoils the root of the living society leading to such sadistic acts.....not even God will have mercy on us

its funny how we jump to the conclusion that since the mass is an uneducated lot then blame such kind of sensitive issues on illiteracy!!! i know of people who are from the most prominent families and yet the father in that family trades his own daughter for big business deals! and in next event is ready to pay homeage to goddess durga!! i could kill such kind of masked people...now what do u guys have to say??? and on the second hand have seen an uneducated person slogging his ass off cause he wanted a much brighter and safer future for his precious daughter. its funny how the plight of uneducated and poor comes into lime light but the sad story of a rich girl gets all hushed up because of the money matter. if we go in depth the riches are no less barberic than these poors.....its just that the media wont even comprehend to touch such kind of bussiness tycoons....hey its the poor who gives them the main spice for their TRP .....if they started digging up the rich people's closet i am sure their channel would be closed within an hour of the broadcast!

It is a shame and painful thing to even read such stuff. As MJ pointed out ignorance plays a major role. I also attribute such behaviour to mob mentality and just for the fun of being sadistic, legally.
